Two anecdotes concerning Bybee Baby's most current cuteness:
1) Daddy was reclining on the bed with a book held over him, reading. Bybee Baby was climbing onto the bed, jumping, flopping around on the pillows, climbing back down to circle the bed, etc. After a while of this, BB went out of the bedroom and down the hall. He returned a minute later to climb up onto the bed again. He'd fetched a book from the shelf in the next room, and now reclined on the pillows and opened it over him to read. It was Geraldine Brooks' Pulitzer-Prize winner, March.
2) In our house, we use the time-out system for discipline and edification. If Bybee Baby is being ungentle, excessively shrieky, whiny, rude, or bossy, we deliver him to his crib and tell him he's on time-out until he remembers "how to be gentle." It usually takes him about two minutes to remember his native gentleness. Last night, during prep-time for dinner, we realized BB had retired to his room on his own. Approaching, we heard him murmuring something. Then we saw that he'd placed his teddy bear, Chaucer, in his rocking chair. BB was kneeling down before the chair and speaking very gently to Chaucer: "Are you ready to be gentle, or do you need more time-out?"
